12 rarely-seen photos take you back to Leeds in the 1950s

This collection of photos takes you back to Leeds in the 1950s – although the specific year of each image is unknown.

They take you around the city's suburbs during the decade but can you add a specific date to any of the wonderful photos? Suburbs in focus include Cottingley, Burmantofts, Morley, Wortley, Rothwell, Oulton, Stourton and Temple Newsam. The images are published courtesy of photographic archive Leodis, which is run by Leeds Library & Information Service. They also run heritage blog The Secret Library Leeds, which provides a behind the scenes look at the Central Library and highlights from its special collections, including rare books hidden away in the stacks.
