Twelve months down the line and the government is now pushing a new mantra which is ‘decisions have to be made quickly and decisively’!

Unfortunately it seems to have confused ‘quickly and decisively’ with ‘last minute and muddled’!

All its decisions and plans seem to miss out the key element of who is actually going to convert their blue skies thinking into action! Setting up and equipping Nightingale Hospitals is of limited value if there are no qualified or experienced staff to man them.

Similarly testing all pupils at school will require trained staff and space to do it, neither of which are readily available. Ministers have to understand that suddenly changing their minds and then coming up with another cunning plan to be implemented at a moment’s notice is no way to manage a national emergency.

We need clear, concise, decisive proactive action and decisions from the government or people will continue to ignore the rules and do what they think is best.
