A teenager has appeared in court charged with the murder of a woman who died from stab wounds in Leeds.

The 17-year-old, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, appeared at Leeds Magistrates Court this afternoon (Wednesday) charged with one count of murder.

The charge relates to an incident in which a 60-year-old woman was found seriously injured at an address in Prince Edward Grove, Leeds on Monday evening (October 23) and later passed away in hospital.

The teenager, who was wearing a grey prison uniform while sat in the dock flanked by two police officers, spoke only to give his name, date of birth and address.

Due to the limited powers of the magistrates court the case was sent to crown court.

The teenager was remanded in youth detention accommodation before his appearance at Leeds Crown Court tomorrow (Thursday).

Local residents on Prince Edward Grove told the YEP of their shock in light of the incident, with one neighbour saying: “It’s a quiet street. You never hear of anything happening.

"It’s horrible. It’s tragic.”
