New measures have been introduced to combat rat-running in the Woodhall and Rockwood areas of Calverley.
Access only signs will stop non-residents driving into the areas and prevent cars from using the quiet residential streets to avoid heavy traffic at the Thornbury Barracks roundabout.

Local councillors have campaigned for the scheme, which will cost around £5,500, with the backing of local residents.

Councillor Andrew Carter (Cons, Calverley and Farsley) said: "I'm pleased that this new order has been approved and I'm sure that residents living in the area will appreciate the drop in traffic.

"It's important that we continue to develop schemes like this that can make a difference to residents' quality of life."

Coun Joe Marjoram (Cons, Calverley and Farsley) added: "Rat-running is a real nuisance.

"It leads to more traffic on roads that weren't designed to take it and this can be dangerous for residents.

"It's right that we try to prevent cars using such streets to skip queues on main roads."
