An American based band, which formed in Leeds 40 years ago, is going to reunite for a one-off gig later this year.

The current line up of the Mekons will be joining the original 1977 band, who were students in the city, for the first time in 30 years at a three day arts festival in rural Suffolk in the grounds of the home of fellow original member Andy Corrigan.

Home to another annual festival it was decided to make this a celebration of the band’s 40th anniversary.

There will be other music acts, poetry, theatrics and crafts at the July event.

Jon Langford said: “As six teenage art students we formed a band. Who’d have thought we would have still been going all these years later?”

Andy Corrigan said: “The spirit of the Mekons was youth, inexperience and conviction. Mekonville will put together a weekend of entertainment that embodies those qualities across what will be a multi-generational celebration.”
