Race organisers have announced that this year's Leeds Half Marathon has been postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Run For All have confirmed that the 13-mile race, which was due to be held on May 10, will now take place on a date to be fixed later this year.

The organisation has taken the decision to postpone all events that should have taken place between March and the end of June.

The Sheffield Half Marathon, which was due to take place this Sunday, has been rescheduled for September 27.

The date for Hull Running Festival has been switched to August 16.

The update states: "It’s a strange time to be managing events and for many, events will be the last thing on your minds given the circumstances.

"We are all having to make changes to help combat this aggressive virus.

"Some changes are easier than others.

"But over the coming weeks and months each and every one of us will make a sacrifice but without a shadow of a doubt those sacrifices are so worth taking to protect ourselves and those around us."

Other postponed events that are yet to have a new date confirmed include Yorkshire Dales Festival, Nottingham 10K, Derby Half Marathon, Lincoln 10K, Burnley 10K and Leicester 10K.

Run For All say they are having to review its operations and will be down to skeleton staff.

The statement continues: "Our team are a young, passionate and an incredibly enthusiastic bunch who can’t wait to be back in the office and out in the warehouse prepping for your events.

"Since Run For All began in 2007 the ethos has always been the same, to provide a vehicle for individuals and charities to fundraise, whilst providing events that are accessible to all.

"We know that due to the virus, charities are going to struggle to not only cope with the demand for their services but also to raise the vital funds required to keep them going.

"Our events for a number of our partners have become an essential fundraising stream which only goes to cement how important it is that we host these events.

"Once we overcome this virus, and we will, we want our events to become a true celebration of life.

"It's not until it's taken away, our freedom to participate, to fundraise or to interact that we realise what’s really important."
