Youngsters attended a special assembly in the playground as local councillors Brian Cleasby and Chris Townsley officially opened the new play area.

There is a special playhouse and stage, which aims to extend children's literacy skills through role play and drama, as well as a climbing wall and fragranced plants.

The Horsforth school has raised £28,000 to help create the new playground.

The North West Outer Area Committee boosted the total by adding an extra £9,000.

Headteacher Lorraine Wadkin said the school would be enhancing the
facility by saving to buy special outdoor musical instruments.

She added: "Our children, as well as being very active, love to make music through play and lunch times not just in lessons."
